Course description:
In this shot workshop, students will explore an alternate approach to creating a vase through handbuilding, a skill that can be useful (and more accessible) for those without access to a pottery wheel. Students will acquire a base knowledge both of clay-forming techniques and surface decoration.
Location: Ceramics Studio
The Centre for Craft’s Ceramics Studio is located within our Studios Building at 1096 Marginal Road, Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Building Description: Look for a grey building with blue trim. On the right hand side heading south, a few parking lots down from the back of the Westin hotel.
Weather-Related Closure Policy:
For weather-related closures, students will be notified of updates via email 3 hours in advance of the class start time.
If it is less than 3 hours before a class is scheduled to start, the students will be notified by email and over the phone.
Ceramic Projects Pick-Up Policy:
Students will be contacted after the last class of the course with various pick up times. This may take up to 3 weeks. All ceramic projects created in this course must be picked up during the set pick up times. If you can’t make it due to your schedule, get in touch with our studio coordinator.
Any unclaimed pieces that remain in the Ceramic Studio will be discarded.
Cancellation Policy:

- Cancellations with 7 or more business days notice can receive a full refund.
- Cancellations with 4-6 business days notice will only be issued a 75% refund.
- Cancellations with 1-3 business days before the first day of class will result in a 50% refund.
- No shows and cancellations less than 1 business day before will result in charges of the FULL class fee and are NOT eligible for any refund.

Instructor:

Gina Brigante
Gina Brigante (b. 1997, Winnipeg, Manitoba) is currently based in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Brigante received her BFA in Ceramics (Honours) from NSCAD University in 2022. Her work has been shown in several group exhibitions during her time at NSCAD, including two in partnership with Parks Canada and Habitat for Humanity. In 2018 Brigante did a one month residency at Kejimkujik National Park, collecting research and inspiration from the natural environment while living in her tent in the woods. Although ceramics has been her primary focus, Brigante explored several other mediums during her years at art school such as printmaking, bookbinding, painting, sculpture, wood and metal works.
